Meet Dr. Giyaur

Dr. Giyaur is board certified in ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery. She practices comprehensive ophthalmology with a special interest in cataract surgery, no-flap no-cut laser vision correction, treatment of dry eye and other eye surface problems, glaucoma, and diabetic eye care. She is a second generation eye surgeon following in the footsteps of her mother, a distinguished Russian pediatric ophthalmologist.

Education

Dr. Giyaur received all of her education and training at some of the best higher learning institutions in the New York area. She graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Chemistry. She received her Medical Doctorate degree from Downstate Medical Center and completed her medical internship at NYU Downtown Hospital. She then entered residency training in ophthalmology at NYU/North Shore University-Long Island Jewish Medical Center. In her last year of training she was chosen to serve as a Chief Resident. She also completed a refractive laser vision correction fellowship (LASIK) at Park Avenue Laser Vision.

Experience

Dr. Giyaur’s past clinical experience includes working, teaching residents, and operating in several hospitals in New York. She is currently in private practice, seeing patients in two convenient locations in Brooklyn and Queens. Dr. Giyaur continues to teach and provides consulting services at several hospitals and clinics in NYC as well.. She holds active clinical and operating privileges in some of the most prestigious hospitals in the area. Those include New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, which is considered one of the best eye care hospitals worldwide, Beth Israel Medical Center, North Shore University Medical Center, and Maimonides Medical Center, among others.

Dr. Giyaur is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and New York State Ophthalmologic Society.

Through her vast clinical knowledge and experience, as well as through continued education and use of the latest equipment and techniques, Dr. Giyaur is able to provide her patients with the highest quality of care.

Dr. Giyaur is a very nice and knowledgeable doctor. She was able to diagnose and treat my eye problem that 2 other eye doctors did not help me with. Dr. Giyaur listened very attentively to my explanation of my eye symptoms and gave me a very thorough eye examination. There was no guesswork. The office is equipped with the latest medical testing equipment and it is used expertly to assist in examining complaints and coming up with an accurate fact based diagnosis. Dr. Giyaur explained thoroughly her findings and her treatment plans. A rarely seen concern of hers is the cost of medication and she made sure that my prescription plan will adequately cover the cost of the prescriptions that she prescribed. I saw Dr. Giyaur for an eye emergency. She was able to accommodate me despite a busy schedule and there being a lot of patients in the office that evening. The front desk personnel were very helpful in scheduling of my appointment. Dr. Giyaur examined my eye and prescribed the treatment eye drops and took time to explain everything. She seems very experienced and knowledgeable. She really seems to care about her patients. My eye improved right away with treatment. I would go back to her if I need an eye doctor again.
